Rodent Prevention Tips Everyone In Towson, MD Should Know
Keeping rats & mice out of your home is a priority for all homeowners. With the risks posed by rodents (electrical fires, filthiness, and diseases), letting them run rampant is a bad call. Thankfully, you can use these prevention tips to stop rodents from invading your property.
- Keep your home clean. Wiping up spills, cleaning up food debris, and taking the trash out regularly gives rodents fewer food sources. Don’t forget to clean behind appliances.
- Remove water sources. Leaks, stagnant water, and humidity invite rodents to your home. They need water to live. Get rid of their options and they’ll leave.
- Get rid of potential hiding spots. Rodents love to stay hidden, and a messy home provides many places to hide.
- Store food in plastic containers. Rodents can chew through almost anything, so store food in containers that they can’t break into. Putting these containers in your fridge is even better.
If rodents are causing issues, you’ll need the help of a professional pest control company like Miche Pest Control to get rid of them. Through strategic trapping, baiting, and exclusion, we break up the rodent population and drive them out. We also clean up after them so you don’t have to!
Things That Residents Of Towson, MD Can Do About Rats - Whether They Have Them Or Not
- Inspect your property regularly for signs of rodent activity.
- Keep your yard free of trash, debris, high grass, or accumulations of building supplies. If you must store materials or equipment outside, do so neatly.
- Don't leave pet food, dog manure, bird seed, and other food scraps outside. Never put household garbage or food scraps in compost piles. Make sure garbage cans are closed, with tight-fitting lids.
- Get rid of standing water from your property, and remove items that can accumulate rain water.
- Close any holes you can find in the foundation of your house, and fill in voids underneath stairs, sidewalks, and porches. Ensure there are no gaps around the exterior doors of your home. Install a tight-fitting lid on your sump pump well.
- Clean up outside eating areas regularly, and don't feed wild animals. Remove fruit trees.

3 Things You Should Know About Mosquitoes In Towson, MD
Deadly viruses and diseases are the last things you’d expect to get from a single mosquito bite, but it is possible. Mosquitoes spread a variety of harmful diseases and require immediate action when they’re on your property. These three tips will help you reduce the mosquito population on your property.
- Mosquitoes breed in stagnant water. If they have just a few inches of still water, they can lay eggs. Remove water sources as much as you are able to reduce mosquito-breeding sites.
- Mosquitoes use overgrown shrubs and trees as hiding spots. They’ll wait in the shade for a target, and then zip out to start feeding. Cut back vegetation as much as possible to reduce mosquito-hiding spots.
- Mosquitoes are attracted to specific scents and colors. Floral perfumes, sweat, and dark colors allow them to locate targets easier. Reducing sweet-smelling plants on your property may reduce the number of mosquitoes in your yard.
Because of the dangers mosquitoes pose, it’s best to let professionals handle them. Miche Pest Control offers a combination of mosquito treatment solutions that are proven to reduce mosquito (and tick) populations.

How Much Damage Can Termites Do In Towson MD?
A home is the average homeowner’s largest investment; in Towson, the median home value is approximately $364,000. The most common termite species in Towson is the Eastern Subterranean Termite. Subterranean termites nest underground, leaving their nest to feed on wood - they can enter buildings through gaps and cracks less than 1/16th of an inch. Once inside, they remain hidden in the walls of the home, feeding until the damage becomes extensive enough to be noticed. Termites eat wood 24/7, using their saw-toothed jaws to bite off small fragments of wood, one piece at a time. Over time, subterranean termites can critically damage a building structure, sometimes causing a total collapse. Subterranean termites threaten homeowners across the country, as they’re found in every state in the U.S except Alaska.
Even a smaller colony, at 60,000 workers, has the ability to eat 1/5 ounce—or 5 grams—of wood each day. At this rate, a “small” subterranean termite colony could completely consume 2.3 feet of a 2x4 wood board in one year alone. Over time, subterranean termites can collapse a building entirely, potentially meaning financial ruin for a homeowner. Subterranean termite colonies can grow quickly and can often go years undetected, allowing them to cause costly and significant damage without homeowners even having a single clue.

Towson is an unincorporated community and a census-designated place in Baltimore County, Maryland, United States. It is the county seat of Baltimore County and the second-most populous unincorporated county seat in the United States (after Ellicott City, the seat of nearby Howard County, southwest of Baltimore). The community is located immediately north of Baltimore City, inside the Beltway (I-695), east of I-83 and along York Road. Its census boundaries include Pikesville to the west, Lutherville and Hampton to the north, Parkville to the east, and Baltimore to the south. Major neighborhoods in Towson include: Anneslie, Idlewylde, Greenbriar, Southland Hills, Rodgers Forge, Stoneleigh, Wiltondale, Towson Manor Village, Hunt Crest Estates, Knollwood-Donnybrook, East Towson, Loch Raven Village and West Towson. Ruxton, which lies to the west, is sometimes considered a part of Towson. Eudowood is a Towson neighborhood named after Eudocia, the wife of Dr. John T. Stansbury, on whose former estate it is situated.
Towson was settled in 1752 when Pennsylvania brothers, William and Thomas Towson, began farming an area of Sater's Hill, northeast of the present-day York and Joppa Roads. William's son, Ezekiel, opened the Towson Hotel to serve the growing number of farmers bringing their produce and livestock to the port of Baltimore. He built the hotel at current-day Shealy Avenue and York Road, near the area's main crossroads. The village became known as "Towsontown". The property in West Towson came from two land grants: 400 acre Gott's Hope in 1719, and Gunner's Range in 1706. In 1790, businessman Capt. Charles Ridgely completed the Hampton Mansion just north of Towsontown, the largest private house in America at the time. The Ridgelys lived there for six generations, until 1948. It is now preserved as the Hampton National Historic Site and open to the public.
