Are Termites Common In Arlington VA?

Wherever there is wood on Arlington properties, there can be a termite problem. Each year, termites are responsible for an estimated five billion dollars worth of damage to homes in the U.S. These issues develop in roughly 600,000 homes across the country, and Arlington properties are no exception to the rule. Something as simple as having yard debris, mulch too close to a building’s foundation, or having unrecognized water damage is enough to draw termites inside. While this is most likely to take place during the warmer months, once termites enter a structure, they are a year-round problem because of their insatiable appetite for wood.

As a locally-owned, family owned and operated business, Miche Pest Control knows firsthand how disastrous the termites in Arlington can be, which is why we provide property owners with the most comprehensive termite control around. Our highly trained pest experts begin with meticulous inspections in order to understand the scope of an infestation or how one can be prevented. If termite activity is detected, we spot treat any damage as well as live activity. From there, we install the Sentricon System, which is designed to work throughout the year to keep termites at bay. For more information on termite control that works, contact Miche Pest Control today.

Identifying Termites In Arlington

Because of the location of their colonies, Arlington residents may have termites and never even see them. Termite activity is often relegated to foundations, walls, and the far reaches of any other wooden structures on your property. That said, here are the most common termite species you’re likely to encounter and how to identify them:

  • Subterranean. Generally found in and around foundations, the subterranean termite is a milky white color and has pronounced antennae.
  • Dampwood. Typically attracted to wood that has been made vulnerable due to water damage or fungus, the dampwood termite soldiers have a yellowish-brown gradation color while the swarmers have jagged wings and are a darker reddish-brown.
  • Drywood. The drywood swarmer has even, metallic-colored wings, while the soldier is wingless, brown and cream-colored, and has large pincers.

No matter the type of termite you’re dealing with, Miche Pest Control has the solution for you. We provide property owners with all-encompassing termite control solutions that are geared at removing any activity present as well as preventing termites from returning to your property. We use the Sentricon Termite Baiting System, which speeds up the removal process while also proactively keeping new termites away. Don’t leave termite control to chance; contact us today for more information.

Learn More About Termites In Arlington VA

Knowledge is power, and knowing as much as you can about wood-eating termites is the best way to protect your property and bank account from these destructive pests. Some facts you need to know about termites include the following:

  • Termites thrive in the hot humid weather that our region is known for.
  • Termites enter homes unseen, nesting underground and entering buildings through the foundation or soil-to-wood contact areas on your property.

  • Termite colonies are huge; a single colony can have between 20,000 and 5 million workers.
  • Termites remain active year-round. This allows them to cause constant damage to the structure they have infested.
  • Termites don’t require sleep. They work day and night to feed their colony.
  • The Sentricon® System is an effective, standalone solution to both eliminate current termite infestations and prevent future termite problems.

Arlington VA

Arlington County is a county in the Commonwealth of Virginia, often referred to simply as Arlington, Virginia. The county is situated in Northern Virginia on the southwestern bank of the Potomac River directly across from the District of Columbia, of which it was once a part, under the name Alexandria County. The county is coterminous with the U.S. Census Bureau's census-designated place of Arlington. Arlington is considered to be the second-largest "principal city" of the Washington metropolitan area. If it were incorporated as a city, Arlington would be the fourth most-populous city in the state.

With a land area of 26 square miles, Arlington is the geographically smallest self-governing county in the US, and by reason of state law regarding population density, it has no incorporated towns within its borders. Arlington is home to the Pentagon, Reagan National Airport, and Arlington National Cemetery. In academia, the county contains Marymount University, George Mason University's Antonin Scalia Law School, the administrative offices buildings and graduate programs for the Schar School of Policy and Government and the Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter School for Peace and Conflict Resolution, as well as satellite campuses of the University of Virginia and Virginia Tech.

The area that now constitutes Arlington County was originally part of Fairfax County in the Colony of Virginia. Land grants from the British monarch were awarded to prominent Englishmen in exchange for political favors and efforts at development. One of the grantees was Thomas Fairfax, 6th Lord Fairfax of Cameron, who lends his name to both Fairfax County and the City of Fairfax. The county's name "Arlington" comes via Henry Bennet, Earl of Arlington, a Plantation along the Potomac River, and Arlington House, the family residence on that property. George Washington Parke Custis, the grandson of First Lady Martha Washington, acquired this land in 1802. The estate was eventually passed down to Mary Anna Custis Lee, wife of General Robert E. Lee. The property later became Arlington National Cemetery during the American Civil War, and eventually lent its name to present-day Arlington County.
