The Consequences Of Stink Bug Activity On Your Property In Arlington VA

Stink bugs get their name from the unpleasant odor they emit upon feeling threatened. There is a special gland in their abdomen that sprays this smelly chemical as a defense mechanism. A stink bug’s spray can reach several inches in front of them and the smell alone deters predators from approaching. These odorous pests tend to appear in the late fall looking for a place to overwinter. They find sources of shelter inside homes and make nests to spend the cold season. They usually enter in large numbers, making an infestation pretty hard to control once it’s made its way inside.

Though tempting, it’s important that you don’t give in and stomp on a family of these stinky insects. Squishing even one will result in a putrid odor that you don’t want to smell. For complete stink bug extermination and prevention services, contact the team at Miche Pest Control. We will detect all stink bug activity before performing a thorough, customized treatment throughout the property. We will also make recommendations so that you can make any necessary habitat modifications needed to keep them out for good. Contact us right away to keep the stink at bay!

What Should All Property Owners In Arlington VA Know About Stink Bugs?

Stink bugs smell, as evident from their name. Aside from their putrid odor, what else do we know about these stinky pests? In terms of whether they’re threatening or not, stink bugs do not bite, nor do they sting. So, in that regard, they are safe. The smell they emit is extremely unpleasant, but on the bright side, it’s not poisonous. The odor comes from smelly pheromones that stink bugs emit to attract their mate. This smell is noxious and overpowering, to say the least.

Now that we know why they smell so bad, let’s go over what kind of damage they can cause. Stink bugs are capable of causing large scale agricultural damage that can be very devastating. They feed on plants, crops, and other kinds of vegetation, destroying farmland and gardens. The smell they emit also signals to nearby stink bugs to come join them as they’ve successfully managed to find food and shelter. Arlington, VA

Arlington County is a county in the Commonwealth of Virginia, often referred to simply as Arlington, Virginia. The county is situated in Northern Virginia on the southwestern bank of the Potomac River directly across from the District of Columbia, of which it was once a part, under the name Alexandria County. The county is coterminous with the U.S. Census Bureau's census-designated place of Arlington. Arlington is considered to be the second-largest "principal city" of the Washington metropolitan area. If it were incorporated as a city, Arlington would be the fourth most-populous city in the state.

With a land area of 26 square miles, Arlington is the geographically smallest self-governing county in the US, and by reason of state law regarding population density, it has no incorporated towns within its borders. Arlington is home to the Pentagon, Reagan National Airport, and Arlington National Cemetery. In academia, the county contains Marymount University, George Mason University's Antonin Scalia Law School, the administrative offices buildings and graduate programs for the Schar School of Policy and Government and the Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter School for Peace and Conflict Resolution, as well as satellite campuses of the University of Virginia and Virginia Tech.

The area that now constitutes Arlington County was originally part of Fairfax County in the Colony of Virginia. Land grants from the British monarch were awarded to prominent Englishmen in exchange for political favors and efforts at development. One of the grantees was Thomas Fairfax, 6th Lord Fairfax of Cameron, who lends his name to both Fairfax County and the City of Fairfax. The county's name "Arlington" comes via Henry Bennet, Earl of Arlington, a Plantation along the Potomac River, and Arlington House, the family residence on that property. George Washington Parke Custis, the grandson of First Lady Martha Washington, acquired this land in 1802. The estate was eventually passed down to Mary Anna Custis Lee, wife of General Robert E. Lee. The property later became Arlington National Cemetery during the American Civil War, and eventually lent its name to present-day Arlington County.
