Why Spiders Invade Arlington Homes

As we’ve mentioned, there are a variety of different spider species here in Arlington. Whatever species you’re up against, it’s safe to say that no homeowner wants to find any of these eight-legged intruders in their house.

If you’re wondering what brings spiders into your home in the first place, there are a variety of attractants to keep in mind. Spiders enter your home looking for two things - food and shelter. Addressing these sources is a good place to start in controlling spider populations around your house.

Keep in mind the following:

  • Their main food source is insects, so if there are insects in your home, there are likely spiders.
  • Anything that attracts insects to your home will also attract spiders.
  • The presence of spiders is probably indicative of a larger insect infestation.
  • Lack of cleanliness/sanitation around the property is conducive to spider activity.
  • Prefer remote areas that are damp, dark, and out of the way.

If you think you may have a spider problem in your Arlington home, the safest thing to do is reach out to the pest experts. The experienced pest technicians at Miche Pest Control are skilled in the complete detection, elimination, and prevention of spider infestation. How To Identify Spiders In Arlington

Spiders, in general, are known for their spindly legs, bulbous abdomens, and the stalking nature of the way they walk, and in Arlington, the spiders are no different. Two of the most common and most dangerous spiders in the area are the brown recluse and the black widow. The brown recluse is a light brown color with six eyes and the black widow is a glossy black color with a red hourglass stamp. Both of these spiders are anti-social but will attack if they feel provoked. The daddy long-leg is also known as the cellar spider and is very thin and lanky in appearance. As the name would suggest, these spiders frequent basements and other cool, moist places. The wolf spider is fuzzy and chunky in appearance and is most easily spotted by its exaggerated features that look like no other spider. In order to protect your property from all species of spiders, contact Miche Pest Control today for spider control that you can trust.

Four Spider-Removal Strategies for Residents of Arlington VA

When spiders invade your Arlington VA home, you might be frightened, uncomfortable, and unsure about what to do with the problem. The good news is that most spiders are harmless to humans. They just build unsightly webs all over the place. The bad news is that store-bought pesticides have little effect on them, so it’s nearly impossible to keep them out.

When spiders want to get into your home, they’ll find a way. If they think your home could be a fertile hunting ground for their pest prey, they’ll enter with ease and enthusiasm. That’s why the best way to limit spider attraction to your home is to limit pest activity:

  • Seal up cracks and crevices with caulking.
  • Store food and trash properly.
  • Clean regularly.

Although all spiders have venom, not all spider bites are a threat to your health. Most spider bites lead to mild swelling, itching, and redness. Unfortunately, some spiders here in Arlington are dangerous. Though bites from black widow spiders are uncommon, their venom is powerful enough to be a danger to humans. Some of the symptoms of a black widow spider bite include nausea, fever, increased blood pressure, and muscle stiffness.

Arlington VA

Arlington County is a county in the Commonwealth of Virginia, often referred to simply as Arlington, Virginia. The county is situated in Northern Virginia on the southwestern bank of the Potomac River directly across from the District of Columbia, of which it was once a part, under the name Alexandria County. The county is coterminous with the U.S. Census Bureau's census-designated place of Arlington. Arlington is considered to be the second-largest "principal city" of the Washington metropolitan area. If it were incorporated as a city, Arlington would be the fourth most-populous city in the state.

With a land area of 26 square miles, Arlington is the geographically smallest self-governing county in the US, and by reason of state law regarding population density, it has no incorporated towns within its borders. Arlington is home to the Pentagon, Reagan National Airport, and Arlington National Cemetery. In academia, the county contains Marymount University, George Mason University's Antonin Scalia Law School, the administrative offices buildings and graduate programs for the Schar School of Policy and Government and the Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter School for Peace and Conflict Resolution, as well as satellite campuses of the University of Virginia and Virginia Tech.

The area that now constitutes Arlington County was originally part of Fairfax County in the Colony of Virginia. Land grants from the British monarch were awarded to prominent Englishmen in exchange for political favors and efforts at development. One of the grantees was Thomas Fairfax, 6th Lord Fairfax of Cameron, who lends his name to both Fairfax County and the City of Fairfax. The county's name "Arlington" comes via Henry Bennet, Earl of Arlington, a Plantation along the Potomac River, and Arlington House, the family residence on that property. George Washington Parke Custis, the grandson of First Lady Martha Washington, acquired this land in 1802. The estate was eventually passed down to Mary Anna Custis Lee, wife of General Robert E. Lee. The property later became Arlington National Cemetery during the American Civil War, and eventually lent its name to present-day Arlington County.
