Fire ants are possibly one of the most feared types of ants in the world. These tiny menacing bugs are able to both bite and sting you at the same time, which can leave irritating bumps all over your skin.

If you are seeing fire ants around your property, Miche Pest Control can safely get rid of them for you. We offer a wide range of pest control solutions and know what it takes to quickly and permanently get rid of fire ants.

How To Tell If You Have A Fire Ant Problem

Many people mistakenly think that the only way to identify a fire ant is by seeing it if it has a red-colored body. However, there are several ant species that are also red, and not all fire ants are red. Some fire ants will have noticeable red bodies, but there are some that are browner than they are red.

One of the things that make the fire ants stand out from other species is the giant ant mounds that they create. These mounds can be extremely large and measure between two and four feet wide. Sometimes, the mounds are cone-shaped and can reach over 18 inches tall. Other times, the ants will build a mound that is especially wide but has a flat shape.

Why Fire Ants Are More Problematic Than Other Ants

The reason that fire ants are considered to be more problematic is due to the fact that they can bite and sting at the same time. If a fire ant gets on you, it will first use its strong jaws to bite down on your skin. The fire ant will then sting you, and while their bite remains firm, it will swivel around and sting several more times. If you are attacked by fire ants, you will likely see several fire ant bites and stings on your skin arranged in a semi-circle formation.

Fire ants also live in extremely large colonies. On average, a matured fire ant nest can contain around 50,000 ants. If you accidentally step on a fire ant mound or disturb it in any way, you will more than likely be attacked by hundreds of fire ants at one time, making it difficult to remove them from your body and clothing.

Don't Try To Get Rid Of Fire Ants On Your Own

Effective fire ant control usually involves a multi-step process. Also, the type of treatment that is applied will depend on the severity and location of the ant infestation. While the ant mounds may look like above-ground structures, the nest can go several feet down into the ground. DIY treatments are rarely effective against large fire ant nests. An experienced pest control specialist will be able to assess the situation and come up with an effective elimination plan.

The Key To Total Fire Ant Infestation Elimination

Fire ants can become highly aggressive if you get too close to them or their nest. Some of the things that you can do to prevent fire ants from stinging you include:

  • Don't go near fire ant mounds

  • Seal any cracks or openings in your home

  • Call a professional

The best way to keep you and your family safe from these aggressive ants is to have a professional handle the situation. At Miche Pest Control, we specialize in stinging insect elimination. Give us a call today to see how we can eliminate the bothersome fire ants from your yard today!
