A Few Spiders In My Home Is No Big Deal, Right?

Many people shudder at the mere thought of a spider. These creepy creatures have been invading people's homes and haunting their nightmares for centuries. Most of the spiders you will find in your home are considered harmless. However, there are some spiders that you should be cautious around.

If you are not sure whether or not the spiders in your home are dangerous, Miche Pest Control is here to help. Our experienced pest control technicians can help you locate and identify all of the spiders in your home.

How Many Spiders Are Too Many Spiders?

Seeing a lot of spiders inside your home does not necessarily mean you are in immediate danger. But it could mean that you have a bigger issue to tackle.

Spiders don't want to eat the same food that you eat. Instead, they will eat a variety of insects. If you are seeing a lot of spiders in your home, you could have a cockroach, beetle, or other insect infestation.

Spiders also like moist and damp areas. Some areas, like your basement, might be naturally moist and musty. However, a sudden uptick in spiders could also mean that you have a leaky faucet or pipe. It could also mean that your basement, bathrooms, and other normally humid rooms are experiencing more humidity than normal. This needs to be addressed as soon as possible, as it can create mold and mildew in your home.

Is It Dangerous To Have Spiders In My House?

Most spiders that you find in your home can bite. However, the majority of spiders are not aggressive and will only bite if they feel threatened. And there are only a few spiders in this country that contain venom that is considered to be medically significant for people.

The black widow is one of the most venomous spiders in America. This spider has venom that is estimated to be much stronger than rattlesnake venom. The black widow spider has a small, round, and shiny black body. One of its most distinguishing features is a bright orangish-red marking that can be found underneath its abdomen.

The brown recluse is the other dangerous type of venomous spider found in this country. These brown spiders are usually about half an inch around and have light brown bodies. On their back, they have a small, dark marking shaped like a violin. It is this marking that gives them the nickname the fiddle back spider.

What's The Best Way To Get Rid Of Spiders?

One of the best ways to keep spiders out of your home is to remove their food and water sources. Some of the best spider control methods that you can try include:

  • Keep your dry foods in a sealed container to ensure that you aren't attracting insects into your home that will, in turn, attract spiders.

  • Eliminate hiding spots in your home by removing all clutter.

  • Keep your lawn well-maintained to prevent spiders and other pests from nesting around your home.

  • Don't keep stacks of firewood close to your home.

  • Make sure that your basements, crawlspaces, and other moist areas of your home are well-ventilated.

Spiders are small and can sneak through tiny gaps and cracks. You should inspect your home's exterior to make sure that there are no potential entry points. Installing weatherstripping and door sweeps is also an important step in keeping spiders and other pests out.
