Rodents are common in Alexandria - this is normal for cities that are right next to a river. Rodents can cause a number of issues - they can spread diseases, and they can cause damage to structures and other personal property. The three rodents of most concern in Alexandria are the House Mouse, the Norway Rat, and the Roof Rat. Rats contaminate as much as ten times more food by urination and defecation than they eat.

As recommended by the City of Alexandria's guidelines for successful rodent control programs, at Miche Pest Control, we use a combination of rat and mouse traps inside, entry point exclusion (rodent proofing), and tamper-resistant rodent bait stations outside to get rid of rats and mice.

Problems Rodents Cause In Alexandria VA

Rodents are small mammals that are easily identified by their long, front incisors. These common pest invaders are most common during fall and winter when the weather becomes colder, and resources are scarce, but they can and will invade at any point throughout the year. Although some rodents might look cute and harmless, it’s important to remember that rats and mice can cause many problems when they get into your Alexandria VA home or business. Some of the issues rodents cause include:

  • Damaging property: Rodents must chew on things to prevent their teeth from growing too long. Unfortunately, many rodents will chew on electrical wires, piping, furniture, and structural beams.

  • Contaminating food items: Rodents are carriers of bacteria, pathogens, and parasites. Once rodents get into your property, they can contaminate your food items and counter surfaces with harmful bacteria.

  • Spreading diseases: In addition to the bacteria rodents spread, they can also transmit a wide range of diseases, including hantavirus, salmonellosis, and plague.

If rodents have taken over your Alexandria home or business, don’t hesitate to contact Miche Pest Control today. We are proud to offer long-term solutions for a wide range of pest problems, including rodents. Guide To Avoiding Rodents In Alexandria VA

Rodents are bad news in Alexandria, thanks to their ability to damage property while transmitting a range of diseases and parasites, making them a double threat that you can do without. We’ve put together a brief guide to help you avoid rodents in Alexandria that includes the following tips:

  • Seal up the entry points: Rodents can slip through extremely small holes. More importantly, they do so seeking food and shelter. That’s why the most important step to avoiding rodents is to block their access.

  • Keep things clean: Rodents are very happy to get into food left out or crumbs dropped from a plate. They are also attracted to your trash and clutter. You can make your home much less attractive to rodents by regularly practicing trash management and cleaning the house from top to bottom.

  • Trim the vegetation: Avoiding rodents begins outside with landscaping. Be sure to trim back tree branches and bushes so they can’t use them as a bridge to get inside the house.

Alexandria VA Commercial Rodent Control

When it comes to commercial rodent solutions, as a first line of defense, we use tamper-resistant bait stations around the outside perimeter of the structure. This helps reduce outdoor rodent populations. We place these bait stations near rodent burrows, against walls, and rodent pathways where they travel from one place to the next.

There are many benefits to these bait stations, including:

  • Resistance to tampering and weakening by the weather

  • Strong enough to block entry and avoid destruction by pets and kids

  • Easy to lock with large entrances to accommodate both rats and mice

  • A concrete block inside the bait station helps anchor it in place so it stays secure

We also use trapping methods such as snap traps, glue traps, multi-catch traps to catch rodents around your facility. We offer treatments using Selontra rodent bait, which gets rid of rodents faster than traditional anticoagulant rodenticides, and is also effective against anti-coagulant-resistant rodents. We work hard to eliminate all rodent populations so you can run your business smoothly and free from infestation. Call today.

Alexandria VA

Alexandria is an independent city in the Commonwealth of Virginia in the United States. Located along the western bank of the Potomac River, Alexandria is approximately 7 miles south of downtown Washington DC.

Like the rest of Northern Virginia, as well as Central Maryland, modern Alexandria has been influenced by its proximity to the U.S. Capitol. It is largely populated by professionals working in the federal civil service, in the U.S. military, or for one of the many private companies which contract to provide services to the federal government. One of Alexandria's largest employers is the U.S. Department of Defense. Another is the Institute for Defense Analyses. In 2005, the United States Patent and Trademark Office moved to Alexandria, and in 2017, so did the headquarters of the National Science Foundation.

The historic center of Alexandria is known as Old Town. With its concentration of boutiques, restaurants, antique shops and theaters, it is a major draw for all who live in Alexandria as well for visitors. Like Old Town, many Alexandria neighborhoods are compact and walkable. It is the 7th largest and highest-income independent city in Virginia.

A large portion of adjacent Fairfax County, mostly south but also west of the city, has Alexandria mailing addresses. However, this area is under the jurisdiction of Fairfax County's government and separate from the independent city. The city is therefore sometimes referred to as the "City of Alexandria" to avoid confusion. Additionally, neighboring Arlington County was formerly named "Alexandria County" before it was renamed by the Virginia General Assembly in 1920 to reduce confusion with the city.
