How Rodents Get Into Annandale Businesses
The rodents that find their way inside Annandale businesses are very crafty. Sometimes rats will utilize the sewer system to gain access to the interior of your property. Rats are also very adept climbers, so they may try to take advantage of any overhanging tree branches to gain access inside your business. Mice are capable of squeezing through any space that’s the size of your pinky finger, so almost any opening can be used as an entry point. If your business has gaps around doors, holes in your foundation, or even a crack in a bulkhead, that’s enough to leave yourself vulnerable to a problem.
Protecting your business property from rodents is one of the most important things you can do as a business owner. At Miche Pest Control, we understand this need firsthand, which is why our rodent control is designed to be both corrective and proactive. We begin every customer journey with a scrupulous property inspection, with special attention given to entry points and hot spots. From there, we seal any entry points that are proving troublesome, install exclusion, and tamper-proof bait stations outside of your property. Rodent Control Tips For Businesses In Annandale
Rodents like rats and mice can become a serious issue for your Annandale business very easily. In order to keep that from being the case, try these tips:
- Tend to your foundation. One of the most common ways that rodents gain access to your property is through the foundation, so fill any cracks and holes with steel wool, wire mesh, or caulk. Also be sure to not leave doors open unattended for extended periods of time.
- Maintain landscaping. Rats are notorious for climbing, so always trim back trees, hedges, and other foliage.
- Store food properly. Crumbs and food residue are a big no-no for any business. Always clean up after food, leaving behind no traces of them. It’s also important to always store food and pantry items in airtight containers and dispose of anything that’s overly ripe.
- Fix moisture problems. Whether it’s maintaining well-ventilated basements, attics, and crawl spaces or fixing a leaky pipe, faucets, or gutter, limiting moisture problems in your property is key.
- Contact a pro. The most reliable way to keep rodents out of your property is with the expertise of a professional exterminator.

Five Easy Ways To Keep Rodents Out Of Your Annandale Home
When rodents enter Annandale homes, they bring with them other pests, illnesses, and the possibility for property damage. Here are five easy ways to keep them out of your home:
- Address issues with moisture. Whether you have a leaky gutter and roof outside of your home or humid crawl spaces, anything creating moisture should be remedied immediately.
- Secure your foundation. Rodents gain access to your home most commonly through very small openings in and around your foundation. Something as simple as a gap around your garage door can invite them in, which is why it’s important to fill any cracks or crevices with weather stripping, silicone-based caulk, steel wool, or wire mesh.
- Keep things tidy. A pile of clutter is very exciting to rodents as is a pile of crumbs. Disinfect surfaces and floors routinely and remove all stacks of old newspapers and magazines.
- Watch out for food. One of the things that rodents desire the most is your food, whether it’s leftovers that are sitting on the counter or scraps in your trash. Always store food in locking containers, take out the trash frequently, and don’t allow dirty dishes to pile up in the sink.
- Contact the pros. Many homeowners may try to trap a mouse here or there, but that doesn’t actually get at the root cause of why you’re having a rodent problem. A pest professional can provide invaluable insight into your issues and employ the highest quality services to address them.

Annandale VA
Annandale is a census-designated place (CDP) in Fairfax County, Virginia. The population of the CDP was 43,363 as of the 2020 United States Census. It is home to the oldest and largest branch of the Northern Virginia Community College system, and to one of the D.C. area's Koreatowns.
Annandale is mostly traversed by the Capital Beltway (Interstate 495) and Little River Turnpike (Virginia State Route 236). The center of town is considered to be where Little River Turnpike, Columbia Pike, and Backlick Road meet, around two miles east of Interstate 495 on Little River Turnpike.
Annandale is bordered to the north by West Falls Church, to the east by Lake Barcroft and Lincolnia, to the south by North Springfield, and to the west by Wakefield and Woodburn. The CDP border follows Braddock Road to the south, Interstate 495 to the west, Holmes Run and Arlington Boulevard (U.S. Route 50) to the north, and Sleepy Hollow Road, Columbia Pike, and Little River Turnpike to the east.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 7.86 square miles, all of it land. The area is part of the coastal plain located just east of the Fall Line separating the coastal plain of Virginia from the Piedmont. It is characterized by rolling hills, stream valleys, and heavy red clay soils.
The Annandale region is bisected by Accotink Creek, which in Colonial times was a primary link for ocean-going ships that would load tobacco and other goods where Little River Turnpike - Annandale's oldest road and the first toll road in America - crosses it. With the construction of the Springfield Dam in 1918, Lake Accotink was created to serve as a water source for World War I-era Army Camp A.A. Humphreys (now named Fort Belvoir). In 1960, when the lake was no longer needed by the Army, the Fairfax County Park Authority leased the land and finally bought the site in 1965. Today, Lake Accotink is a popular recreation area with walking, hiking and biking trails, fishing and boat rentals.
Also along Accotink Creek runs the Gerry Connolly Cross County Trail which provides uninterrupted hiking, biking, running and cross-country skiing for 20 miles in Annandale. The trail meanders through parks and forests filled with deer, fox, geese and numerous species of native birds. In the spring, Accotink Creek is stocked with trout, and fishermen are often seen wading in its waters.
