Flea Prevention Tips Everyone In McLean, VA Ought To Know

Nearly impossible to see with the naked eye, fleas are one very small pest that packs a big punch. They enter your McLean home and proceed to wreak havoc on your health and the health of your pets. In order to keep these dangerous pests out of your home, try these five key tips:

  • If you have cats or dogs, consider speaking with your veterinarian about year-round flea and tick prevention.
  • Clean your home regularly, by vacuuming and paying special attention to the upholstered items like couches, carpets, and dog beds.
  • Limit rodent and wildlife problems on your property by using methods like sprinklers, porch lights, and storing your trash receptacles securely.
  • Tend to the foliage around your property by mowing your lawn regularly, trimming back your tree branches, clearing leaf piles, and keeping other vegetation from overgrowing.
  • Before bringing any secondhand items into your home, like couches, chairs, and mattresses, inspect them thoroughly first for flea activity. If you can, ask about their previous whereabouts as well.

When fleas enter your home, the health risks that they pose are very serious and require professional flea control to stop the spread of their dangers. Sometimes, McLean homeowners may have a flea problem without doing anything to attract these pests in the first place, as they often get left behind by previous tenants or homeowners. This makes the need for professional flea control all the more important. To learn more about keeping fleas out of your home, contact Miche Pest Control today.

Why McLean, VA, Residents Should Consider Professional Flea Control

Fleas are a very real pest problem for McLean property owners. To start, they are so small that they are nearly unidentifiable with the naked eye. Many times, residents may have a problem without even knowing it because they simply can’t spot them.

These pests can enter homes in very simple ways too. If you have a raccoon or rodent problem on your property, fleas are very rarely far behind. But something as simple as allowing your dog to spend time outside or play with unknown dogs at the dog park may also bring this type of problem into your home. Once fleas have made their way into your home, they proceed to fester and lay eggs in the depths of your couches, mattresses, and upholstered items. While they’re living in your home, fleas will feed off of any warm-blooded individual that they can find, but they’re particularly attracted to your cats and dogs.

Fleas will feed off of pets until they cause significant blood loss and a series of other significant health problems like tularemia and alopecia. And fleas aren’t a pest that can easily be taken care of, which is why professional flea control is so necessary. At Miche Pest Control, we work around the clock to provide homeowners with the most comprehensive and reliable flea control in order to prevent all of the dangers that these pests cause. McLean VA

McLean is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Fairfax County in Northern Virginia. McLean is home to many diplomats, military, members of Congress, and high-ranking government officials partially due to its proximity to Washington DC, the Pentagon, and the Central Intelligence Agency. It is the location of Hickory Hill, the former home of Ethel Kennedy, the widow of Robert F. Kennedy. It is also the location of Salona, the former home of Light-Horse Harry Lee, the Revolutionary War hero. It is located between the Potomac River and the town of Vienna. McLean is often distinguished by its luxury homes and its nearby high-profit shopping destinations: Tysons Corner Center and Tysons Galleria. The two McLean zip codes – 22101 and 22102 – are among the most expensive ZIP Codes in Virginia and the United States.

The community received its name from John Roll McLean, the former publisher and owner of The Washington Post. Along with Stephen Benton Elkins and French aristocrat Jean-Pierre Guenard, in 1902 he bought the charter for the Great Falls and Old Dominion Railroad. Completed in 1906, it connected the area with Washington DC. McLean named a railroad station after himself, where the rail line (traveling on the present route of Old Dominion Drive) crossed the old Chain Bridge Road. The community itself was founded in 1910, when the communities of Lewinsville and Langley merged.

McLean is located on the Capital Beltway (Interstate 495) in Northern Virginia, central McLean is 8 miles northwest of downtown Washington DC and 9 miles northeast of Fairfax, the county seat. The community lies in the Piedmont upland on the west bank of the Potomac River. The river forms the community's northern and eastern borders, and a number of its smaller tributaries flow north and northeast through the CDP. From west to east, these include Bull Neck Run, Scott Run, Dead Run, Turkey Run, and Pimmit Run.

As an inner suburb of Washington DC, McLean is a part of both the Washington Metropolitan Area and the larger Baltimore-Washington Metropolitan Area. The CDP includes the unincorporated communities of Langley, Lewinsville, and West McLean, and it borders several other Washington suburbs including: Potomac and Cabin John, Maryland to the north; Brookmont, Maryland to the northeast; Arlington to the southeast; Falls Church to the south; Idylwood, Pimmit Hills, and Tysons Corner to the southwest; Wolf Trap to the west; and Great Falls to the northwest.
