Why Mosquitoes Are Attracted To Your Springfield Backyard

If you’re wondering why mosquitoes are hanging around your Springfield yard, you should know that there are actually a few things you may be doing to attract them. One of the major mosquito attractants is the presence of standing water. Most of a mosquito’s life cycle occurs in the water, and they need it to nest and breed. So, any standing water sources are conducive to mosquito activity. This can include anything from overturned tires and old pet water bowls to plant pots, buckets, and birdbaths.

The presence of unruly vegetation throughout your backyard is also conducive to mosquito activity. These parasites are drawn to cool, damp areas, hanging out in areas near shrubs and bushes. They also feed on plant nectar, and they’re drawn to tall grass and garden plants.

Your yard is an ideal place for them to feed, breed, and nest for these reasons. Mosquitoes are also attracted to the carbon dioxide produced through human body heat and exhalation. They’re drawn to us (their food source) and tend to favor individuals with an O blood type. However, that doesn’t mean other blood types aren’t at risk.

Between the food sources and the conditions conducive to nesting, it makes sense why your backyard is a haven for local mosquito populations. The most effective way to deal with mosquito activity around your yard is to get in touch with a team of local pest professionals. Miche Pest Control is here to help. Call today to discuss your mosquito control and prevention needs.

Can Springfield Mosquitoes Be Dangerous?

We all know that getting a mosquito bite is an unpleasant experience, but there’s more going on underneath the surface than you may think. As vector pests, mosquitoes pick up pathogens and diseases from one host and then spread them to the next.

If you get bitten by an infected mosquito, you become exposed to a long list of vector-borne illnesses, including malaria, encephalitis, Zika virus, West Nile virus, tularemia, and many others. These conditions can be life-threatening depending on the individual’s sensitivities.

To avoid the dangers of mosquitoes, it’s important to take your mosquito control needs seriously. We recommend getting your property treated by a professional pest control company to protect yourself from these diseases effectively. Miche Pest Control provides thorough mosquito treatment and prevention services that destroy active mosquitoes and deter new ones from showing up. Springfield VA

Springfield is a census-designated place (CDP) in Fairfax County, Virginia. Homes and businesses in bordering CDPs including North Springfield, West Springfield, and Newington are usually given a Springfield mailing address. The CDP is a part of Northern Virginia, the most populous region of the Washington DC Metropolitan Area.

Springfield is dominated by the interchange of I-95, I-395, and the Capital Beltway (I-495), known as the Springfield Interchange. The center of the town is at the intersection of Route 644 (Old Keene Mill Road / Franconia Road) and Route 617 (Backlick Road) adjacent to the interchange. A significant commercial district exists around the interchange area, but the rest of the community is primarily residential in character.

According to the US Postal Service, Springfield collectively has four ZIP codes: 22150 (often unofficially referred to as Central Springfield, this is the zip code for the actual Springfield CDP itself), 22151 (North Springfield), 22152 (West Springfield), and 22153 (Newington).

Central Springfield is dominated by the Springfield Interchange, popularly known as the "Mixing Bowl" or the "Melting Pot", a name taken from an earlier interchange near the Pentagon. The interchange includes three Interstates (I-95, I-395, and I-495), with two exits less than a half mile apart, with two roads (Commerce Street and Route 644 (Old Keene Mill Road / Franconia Road)) going over or under I-95 within less than a half mile, and is further complicated by the presence of a separate, reversible high-occupancy vehicle lane passing through the center of two of the interstates.
