Wasps are a type of stinging insect. Many species of wasps are predatory and feed on many different nuisance insects, helping to reduce their populations. Wasps will also feed on pollen and nectar, and are responsible for a minor amount of pollination. Most species of wasps have pinched waists, two pairs of wings, and six legs that hang down when in flight.
Wasps build their nests in a variety of locations. Trees, utility poles, and underneath roof eaves or chimneys are common places where wasps build aerial nests. Other species can be ground nesters. They often create their nests in abandoned holes created by squirrels, chipmunks, or other small animals. They may also build their nests under shrubs, bushes, wood piles, or rock piles. Ground nests can be very difficult for people and pets to see and avoid, which makes these nests particularly dangerous. Wasps can be aggressive, and will defend themselves and their nests from perceived danger using their stingers. Their venom is strong enough to cause severe allergic reactions in some people, or even trigger anaphylaxis. Care should always be taken around wasps, and a professional should be called to remove a nest from your home.
Wasps on or around your property in Woodbridge VA can be frustrating. To limit nesting spots, make sure to trim trees back away from your home and prune shrubs, bushes, and trees regularly. Fill in holes in your lawn and remove excess debris from your property. Keep outdoor eating areas clean, and keep lids on outdoor trash cans and compost bins. It is also important to seal entry points into your building to help prevent them from placing a nest in your home or business.

Woodbridge is a census-designated place (CDP) in Prince William County, Virginia, located approximately 20 miles south of Washington DC. Bounded by the Occoquan and Potomac rivers, the Woodbridge census-designated place comprises just one portion of the Woodbridge Magisterial District. The census-designated place consists solely of the section north of Occoquan Road and Dawson Beach Road, and east of Interstate 95, but the entirety of zip codes 22191, 22192, and 22193 are typically considered as a part of Woodbridge.
Woodbridge was initially a village composed largely of plantations and later farms and industrial complexes, dating back to at least 1731 when Prince William County was formed out of Stafford County, Virginia. Initially, the first Prince William County Courthouse was erected in Woodbridge owing to its location as halfway between Dumfries, Virginia and Alexandria, Virginia, the two largest cities in (what was then) Prince William County. Later, the Woodbridge postal delivery area became the hub that included Dale City and Lake Ridge, which had previously been forged as a planned community in the 1960s and 1970s. The area takes its name from Thomas Mason's 1795 wooden toll bridge built to supplant the existing ferry, carrying the King's Highway traffic across the Occoquan River. Mason's Woodbridge Plantation was located in the area of the present day Belmont Bay golf course community.
Woodbridge offers a wide range of recreational opportunities for resident and visitors. The Occoquan Bay National Wildlife Refuge is a natural habitat for a variety of plant and animal life including the bald eagles and ospreys. Veteran's Park and Leesylvania State Park are located on the Potomac River and provide swimming, boating, picnic and hiking services. Close by is Rippon Lodge, the oldest house in Prince William County, which is open for tours throughout the summer. Trails at Leesylvania Park lead to the ancestral home of the Lee family.
The 2010 census reconfigured Woodbridge so that the majority of its land area was redesignated Marumsco and Neabsco, Virginia. The southern border of Woodbridge is now Occoquan Road. The area between Occoquan Road and Opitz Boulevard–Rippon Boulevard is now Marumsco. All of the former Woodbridge CDP south of those streets has been designated as Neabsco. However, these areas continue to have postal addresses in "Woodbridge," which is served by a post office in Marumsco.
