Where Did These Rats In My Springfield Basement Come From?

The last thing anyone wants to discover in their basement is a nasty rat running across the room. It’s unnerving, unsettling, and about a million other words that still can’t capture the upsetting experience of finding a rat infestation. Unfortunately, rats are common here in Springfield, and they love it in our homes and businesses.

Rats are unsanitary intruders that can be pretty sneaky about gaining entry into your property. They fit into cracks and crevices throughout the structure, stealthily gaining access into your space. Here are some of the most common ways in which rats get into your home or business:

  • Chewing through construction materials to get inside.
  • Entering water pipes, emerging through sinks, drains, and toilets.
  • Accessing spaces around vents and garage doors.
  • Small openings around the foundation.
  • Openings in and around the roof and chimney.
  • Cracks and crevices in the walls and floorboards.
  • Gaps around windows and holes/tears in window screens.

Once they’re in, they’ll speed to your basement and pretty much anywhere else they can access. If you think you may be facing a rat infestation, it’s important to act quickly. The best way to protect your property from the threat of rat infestation is to reach out to the pest professionals. Do The Rats In Springfield Carry Diseases?

As we’ve discussed, rodent activity can be a real problem for Springfield property owners. Between their ability to bite, and the large-scale contamination they cause, it leaves you vulnerable to contracting various diseases.

As rats leave feces and urine behind them wherever they go, they contaminate every inch of your property. These droppings are rife with bacteria and pathogens, which leads to widespread contamination throughout your Springfield home or business.

People inside of your property then become exposed to disease-causing pathogens. This puts them at risk of adverse medical reactions and conditions. Some of the more common rat-related diseases include leptospirosis, salmonellosis, tularemia, and rat-bite fever.

If you want to avoid these diseases and prevent rats from infesting your property, we suggest contacting your local pest professionals. Springfield, VA

Springfield is a census-designated place (CDP) in Fairfax County, Virginia. Homes and businesses in bordering CDPs including North Springfield, West Springfield, and Newington are usually given a Springfield mailing address. The CDP is a part of Northern Virginia, the most populous region of the Washington Metropolitan Area.

The area is dominated by the interchange of I-95, I-395, and the Capital Beltway (I-495), known as the Springfield Interchange. The center of the town is at the intersection of Route 644 (Old Keene Mill Road / Franconia Road) and Route 617 (Backlick Road) adjacent to the interchange. A significant commercial district exists around the interchange area, but the rest of the community is primarily residential in character.

According to the US Postal Service, Springfield collectively has four ZIP codes: 22150 (often unofficially referred to as Central Springfield, this is the zip code for the actual Springfield CDP itself), 22151 (North Springfield), 22152 (West Springfield), and 22153 (Newington).

Central Springfield is dominated by the Springfield Interchange, popularly known as the "Mixing Bowl" or the "Melting Pot", a name taken from an earlier interchange near the Pentagon. The interchange includes three Interstates (I-95, I-395, and I-495), with two exits less than a half mile apart, with two roads (Commerce Street and Route 644 (Old Keene Mill Road / Franconia Road)) going over or under I-95 within less than a half mile, and is further complicated by the presence of a separate, reversible high-occupancy vehicle lane passing through the center of two of the interstates.
