Are Termites A Concern In McLean?

Termites should be a concern to anyone who owns a property in McLean. Each year, termites are responsible for approximately five billion dollars in damage caused to homes across the country with total damages including commercial buildings and crops reaching 30 billion dollars. This is able to occur because termites are constantly on the search for wood to eat. Subterranean termites tend to attack buildings from the foundation, while dampwood termites seek out walls that are damaged due to fungus or leaks. Simply put, termites could become a problem at any point, and when they do, they’re vicious. Due to their insatiable appetites, termites are capable of eating through the wood on your property all day, every day, the result of which is a property that is left completely unstable.

That’s why at Miche Pest Control, we provide property owners with the most trusted and reliable termite control in town. We perform detailed inspections from the very beginning in order to understand the scope of your damage and utilize the treatments that you need. Some of the methods we use include spot treatments for areas of damage as well as live termites and the Trelona® Advance® Termite Baiting System, which is the industry’s gold standard for lasting protection from termites. What Do Termites Look Like In McLean?

It’s very common that McLean residents have heard horror stories about the damage that termites cause without ever having seen one in real life. Here are three of the most common species you’re likely to encounter and how to identify them:

  • Subterranean termite. This species is a light cream to brown color and has prominent antennae. Their long, narrow bodies have six legs and they typically invade homes through the foundation.
  • Dampwood termite. With large front pincers and translucent white to brown coloring, the dampwood worker is hard to miss. The swarmer, which is the reproductive member that leaves the colony, has wings that are approximately the size of its body.
  • Drywood termite. Brown in coloring and equipped with shiny white wings, the drywood termite often nibbles away at places like door frames and molding.

How To Tell If There Are Termites In Your McLean Home

Termite problems cost American homeowners an average of five billion dollars each year, with approximately 600,000 homes falling victim to this type of activity. These pests often go unnoticed for at least 18 months because they built their colonies in places like foundations and walls. If you notice any of the following signs in your McLean home, you might have a termite problem in your home:

  • Hollow-sounding walls
  • Termite swarmers
  • Bubbling paint and wallpaper
  • Swollen ceilings and floors
  • Doors and windows that won’t shut
  • Piles of discarded wings and frass, which is sawdust-like termite excrement
  • The presence of mud tubes and mazes

The sum total of these problems can leave McLean homes weakened and vulnerable to future problems. At Miche Pest Control, we seek to provide homeowners with the most comprehensive and reliable termite control in the industry. Given our vast experience working with local homeowners, we understand firsthand what your needs are and how to protect your home. Why You Should Call The Pros About Termites On Your McLean Property

Termites are one of the most insatiable pests that McLean property owners could expect to encounter. Due to their proclivity for wood in various forms, termites will do almost anything to gain access to the food that they need. They attack walls, foundations, and any wood that they can find, resulting in significant damage for homeowners. Termite problems can also be hard to detect because of where they take place. Sometimes, property owners try to handle these issues with DIY methods; however, nothing beats the help of a professional.

When you partner with Miche Pest Control for all of your termite control needs, you will always receive detailed inspections and proper pest identification to start. Once we’ve gathered all of the necessary information, we implement methods like spot treatments for live termites as well as termite damage. We even set the Trelona® Advance® Termite Baiting System in order to create long-lasting results and ensure the safety of your property. But perhaps the most important reason why you should call the pros is because we have the extensive knowledge and guaranteed services that will keep termites out of your property from season to season. McLean VA

McLean is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Fairfax County in Northern Virginia. McLean is home to many diplomats, military, members of Congress, and high-ranking government officials partially due to its proximity to Washington DC, the Pentagon, and the Central Intelligence Agency. It is the location of Hickory Hill, the former home of Ethel Kennedy, the widow of Robert F. Kennedy. It is also the location of Salona, the former home of Light-Horse Harry Lee, the Revolutionary War hero. It is located between the Potomac River and the town of Vienna. McLean is often distinguished by its luxury homes and its nearby high-profit shopping destinations: Tysons Corner Center and Tysons Galleria. The two McLean zip codes – 22101 and 22102 – are among the most expensive ZIP Codes in Virginia and the United States.

The community received its name from John Roll McLean, the former publisher and owner of The Washington Post. Along with Stephen Benton Elkins and French aristocrat Jean-Pierre Guenard, in 1902 he bought the charter for the Great Falls and Old Dominion Railroad. Completed in 1906, it connected the area with Washington DC. McLean named a railroad station after himself, where the rail line (traveling on the present route of Old Dominion Drive) crossed the old Chain Bridge Road. The community itself was founded in 1910, when the communities of Lewinsville and Langley merged.

McLean is located on the Capital Beltway (Interstate 495) in Northern Virginia, central McLean is 8 miles northwest of downtown Washington DC and 9 miles northeast of Fairfax, the county seat. The community lies in the Piedmont upland on the west bank of the Potomac River. The river forms the community's northern and eastern borders, and a number of its smaller tributaries flow north and northeast through the CDP. From west to east, these include Bull Neck Run, Scott Run, Dead Run, Turkey Run, and Pimmit Run.

As an inner suburb of Washington DC, McLean is a part of both the Washington Metropolitan Area and the larger Baltimore-Washington Metropolitan Area. The CDP includes the unincorporated communities of Langley, Lewinsville, and West McLean, and it borders several other Washington suburbs including: Potomac and Cabin John, Maryland to the north; Brookmont, Maryland to the northeast; Arlington to the southeast; Falls Church to the south; Idylwood, Pimmit Hills, and Tysons Corner to the southwest; Wolf Trap to the west; and Great Falls to the northwest.
