Are There Any Dangerous Spiders In McLean, VA?
Of the spiders that you’re likely to encounter in McLean homes, two species are particularly dangerous because of their venomous capabilities. The two most dangerous spiders that you may come across are the black widow and brown recluse. The black widow is black and glossy in coloring and stamped with a red hourglass shape. The brown recluse is light brown in coloring, has the mark of a violin, and is the only species of spider with six eyes.
Both spiders tend to hide out of sight from humans both inside and outside. They opt for dark and secluded areas, which indoors, means you'll find them in closets, underneath furniture, and basements and attics. Outdoors, this may be under porches and log piles, amidst leaf piles, in garages, and loitering around leaky gutters and downspouts.
At Miche Pest Control, we provide homeowners with reliable spider control. We treat properties on a quarterly basis with customized combinations that may include de-webbing, applying EPA-approved products to the frames of doors and windows, and spraying the exterior of your property. And if spiders return between regularly scheduled visits, we’ll re-service your property free of charge. To learn more about our spider control services, contact us today.
Three Things You Can Do To Avoid Spiders In McLean VA
Spider problems can develop in McLean properties very easily. Here are three key ways that homeowners can work to prevent them:
1. Seal up your home. The best place to start keeping spiders and the pests they eat out of your home is by tending to the openings in your foundation. Seal them up with caulk, apply weather stripping to the gaps around your doors and windows, install door sweeps, and repair any worn window screens.
2. Keep things clean. Clutter is a favorite place for spiders to hang out, as are the dusty areas underneath furniture, which is why it’s so important to tidy up on a regular basis. In order to prevent pests spiders prey on, like cockroaches and flies, do the dishes regularly, take out the trash routinely, and always store food securely.
3. Address issues with moisture and humidity. Spiders thrive in damp conditions, so always remedy leaky pipes, downspouts, and faucets when you notice them. It’s also imperative to keep basements, attics, and crawl spaces well-ventilated.
The most reliable way to keep spiders out of your home is with professional spider control from Miche Pest Control. Our expert technicians treat your home on a quarterly basis in order to not only remove spider problems but also prevent them from developing. These methods are also geared at preventing other pest infestations, which are a key reason why spider infestations occur in the first place. To learn more about spider control, contact us today.
Why Many McLean Homeowners Are Opting For Professional Spider Control
Spiders are often feared because of their scary depictions in popular culture, with their venom and webs that they spin. But the truth is, most common household spiders are not ultimately dangerous to your health, which is part of why some McLean homeowners may think they don't need professional spider control.
There’s the additional fact that many homeowners think that they can kill an individual spider as they see them. However, it's said you’re never more than 10 feet away from a spider, which means that they are lurking even if you can’t see them. But most importantly, spiders are a very difficult pest to prevent, which is why professional spider control is an absolute necessity for local homeowners.
With assistance from Miche Pest Control, you can keep spiders out of your home no matter the season. With quarterly treatments that are customized to the needs of your property, we combine methods like spraying the exterior of your home, professionally removing cobwebs, and treating the windows of your home. We’ll also address the issue of other pests that may be present, which removes the primary source of food for the spiders. McLean VA
McLean is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Fairfax County in Northern Virginia. McLean is home to many diplomats, military, members of Congress, and high-ranking government officials partially due to its proximity to Washington DC, the Pentagon, and the Central Intelligence Agency. It is the location of Hickory Hill, the former home of Ethel Kennedy, the widow of Robert F. Kennedy. It is also the location of Salona, the former home of Light-Horse Harry Lee, the Revolutionary War hero. It is located between the Potomac River and the town of Vienna. McLean is often distinguished by its luxury homes and its nearby high-profit shopping destinations: Tysons Corner Center and Tysons Galleria. The two McLean zip codes – 22101 and 22102 – are among the most expensive ZIP Codes in Virginia and the United States.
The community received its name from John Roll McLean, the former publisher and owner of The Washington Post. Along with Stephen Benton Elkins and French aristocrat Jean-Pierre Guenard, in 1902 he bought the charter for the Great Falls and Old Dominion Railroad. Completed in 1906, it connected the area with Washington DC. McLean named a railroad station after himself, where the rail line (traveling on the present route of Old Dominion Drive) crossed the old Chain Bridge Road. The community itself was founded in 1910, when the communities of Lewinsville and Langley merged.
McLean is located on the Capital Beltway (Interstate 495) in Northern Virginia, central McLean is 8 miles northwest of downtown Washington DC and 9 miles northeast of Fairfax, the county seat. The community lies in the Piedmont upland on the west bank of the Potomac River. The river forms the community's northern and eastern borders, and a number of its smaller tributaries flow north and northeast through the CDP. From west to east, these include Bull Neck Run, Scott Run, Dead Run, Turkey Run, and Pimmit Run.
As an inner suburb of Washington DC, McLean is a part of both the Washington Metropolitan Area and the larger Baltimore-Washington Metropolitan Area. The CDP includes the unincorporated communities of Langley, Lewinsville, and West McLean, and it borders several other Washington suburbs including: Potomac and Cabin John, Maryland to the north; Brookmont, Maryland to the northeast; Arlington to the southeast; Falls Church to the south; Idylwood, Pimmit Hills, and Tysons Corner to the southwest; Wolf Trap to the west; and Great Falls to the northwest.
