Mice Can Cause Major Damage To Homes And Businesses In Manassas, VA
Mice are known for their need to constantly gnaw on things, to keep their teeth from growing too large. This behavior can lead to significant damage, as mice will chew on wood, reducing its structural integrity, and more importantly, can lead to fires. An estimated 25% of house fires with unknown origins have been attributed to rodents chewing on electrical wires within homes.
Not only can their chewing cause severe damage, but their propensity to create burrows and tunnel can also lead to damage. Mice burrowing underneath a front porch can cause the porch to settle, and separate from the side of the home. Most often, mice will burrow in the much around a home, but they will at times burrow and nest underneath the sidewalk. This can cause the sidewalk to buckle and crack.

If I See One Mouse In My Home, Does That Mean I Have An Infestation?
To some people, the presence of one mouse may not seem like the world is ending, but when mice find shelter located near a good source of food, they will take up residence rather quickly. Mice will most often be found nesting within 10 to 15 feet of their food source. The longer they stay in the area, the more attractive that area becomes to other mice. Not only will additional mice find that convenient nest location and food source, but mice also reproduce at a very fast rate. Mice populations increase approximately 10-fold seemingly overnight, but in all actuality, that process takes approximately 3 months. For a mouse population to increase 100-fold, it only takes 6 months!
Don't let a single mouse turn into an infestation; if you have or suspect an issue with one or more mice, give us a call today!
How Do Mice Get Inside Homes In Manassas, VA?
For some homeowners, discovering a mouse inside your home can be a nightmare. One of the most common questions we get asked is, "How did the mice get into my home?" Mice can fit through holes the size of a dime, so they can gain entry through a wide variety of potential access points. Some of the most common entry points for mice include:
- Faulty garage door seals
- Gaps around the A/C line
- Holes left by contractors around the home (for example, a hole drilled for cable internet)
- Gaps and cracks in foundation walls
- Spaces around doors and windows
- Holes chewed through wood siding and/or framing
- Openings on the roof or around the chimney
The best way to keep mice from entering your home is to combine exclusion services (sealing active and potential mouse entry points) with the installation of tamper-resistant bait stations for mice around the exterior of the home. Keeping mouse populations in check is critical in preventing homes from infiltration by mice. The team at Miche Pest Control provides exactly these services - give us a call today!
