Why Do I Have A Silverfish Problem In My Gaithersburg Home?

Silverfish are occasional invaders, which means, unlike other pests, they don't usually infest looking for food. Instead, they generally make their way inside because of the weather and available moisture. They don't bite or spread disease but can damage your personal belongings,

Circumstances that may cause silverfish to find refuge in your home include the environment, moisture, food, and shelter. But they can also get inside your home on packages and other items you may carry in from outside or storage areas. Even though they seek refuge inside, silverfish aren't a pest that usually lives inside; finding food is challenging.

If you are dealing with a silverfish infestation in your Gaithersburg home, contact Miche Pest Control for the necessary treatments to remove this pest.

Can Pest Control Get Rid Of Silverfish?

Silverfish are one of the easier pests to identify because of their unique and unsettling appearance. Silverfish are named after their body shape, color, and movements and are shiny silver with a tapered body. They also look like they are swimming as they run, with their three bristle-like tales moving side to side.

Although you might be able to identify them, you may not see them right away because they are nocturnal, so here are a few signs to look out for:

  • Droppings are usually found in areas that this pest gravitates to, such as kitchens, bathrooms, and basements. The droppings look like black peppercorns but smaller.
  • Staining can occur on different materials that attract silverfish, such as books, paper products, clothing, and wallpaper. This staining is usually yellow.
  • Shed skin is easy to miss because of the pest's light color, which can look like dust. However, you might see shed skin if you have a severe infestation.
  • Damage to belongings will occur when silverfish are feeding; you will likely see this damage on paper items, cardboard, clothing, and other fabrics.

Getting rid of silverfish is easy by trusting family-owned and operated Miche Pest Control for help. Contact us today for a free estimate and schedule an inspection for your home, which will help us determine your pest situation.

The Best Way To Keep Silverfish Out Of Your Gaithersburg Home

Once the professionals at Miche Pest Control have eliminated your silverfish infestation in Gaithersburg, you need to reduce the attractants that bring silverfish into your home. Here are ways to accomplish this:

Remove Conducive Conditions:

To make your property less attractive to these pests, you should reduce moisture by addressing any poor ventilation issues, repairing leaks, and using dehumidifiers in necessary areas of your home. It would help if you also reduced moisture outside by removing any organic debris, keeping gutters clear, and using crushed rocks to create a barrier between the soil and your home's foundation.

Eliminate Entry Points:

Inspect the exterior of your home for cracks in the foundation, spaces around windows and doors, missing or damaged screens, and gaps around utility lines. It also helps to check any packages or other items for insects before bringing them inside.

Remove Food Sources:

Get rid of clutter such as books and other paper products, keep food stored in air-tight containers, and remove excess plant matter from your yard. Also, plastic storage boxes with a fitting lid can help keep silverfish from getting inside.

Don't forget, the best way to get rid of silverfish is with assistance for professionals, so call us at Miche Pest Control today!

Gaithersburg MD

Gaithersburg, officially the City of Gaithersburg, is a city in Montgomery County, Maryland. Gaithersburg is the fourth-largest incorporated city in Maryland, behind Baltimore, Frederick, and Rockville. Gaithersburg is located to the northwest of Washington DC, and is considered a suburb and a primary city within the Washington–ArlingtonAlexandria, DC–VA–MD–WV Metropolitan Statistical Area. Gaithersburg was incorporated as a town in 1878 and as a city in 1968. Gaithersburg is noted for its ethnic and economic diversity; WalletHub in 2016 ranked it first among the 313 largest U.S. cities for ethnic diversity and second for social class diversity.

Gaithersburg is divided into east and west sections, separated by Interstate 270. The eastern section of the city is older and is the original portion of the town before more recent growth. Landmarks and buildings from that time can still be seen in many places but especially in the historic central business district of Gaithersburg called "Olde Towne". The east side also includes Lakeforest Mall, City Hall, and the Montgomery County Fair grounds, and Bohrer Park (a well-known joint community recreation center and outdoor water park for kids and families). The west side of the city has many wealthier neighborhoods that were designed with smart growth techniques and embrace New Urbanism. These include the award-winning Kentlands community, the Lakelands community, and the Washingtonian Center (better known as Rio), a popular shopping/business district. Two New Urbanism communities are under construction, including Watkins Mill Town Center (Casey East and West), and the massive "Science City".

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is headquartered in Gaithersburg directly west of I-270. Other major employers in the city include IBM, Lockheed Martin Information Systems and Global Services business area headquarters, AstraZeneca, and the French multinational corporation, Sodexo. Gaithersburg is also the location of the garrison of the United States Army Reserve Legal Command.

The most prominent highways serving Gaithersburg are Interstate 270 and Interstate 370. I-270 is the main highway leading northwest out of metropolitan Washington DC, beginning at Interstate 495 (the Capital Beltway) and proceeding northwestward to Interstate 70 in Frederick. I-370 is a short spur, starting just west of I-270 in Gaithersburg and heading east to its junction with Maryland Route 200. Via MD 200, I-370 connects Gaithersburg with Interstate 95 near Laurel. Maryland Route 355 was the precursor to I-270 and follows a parallel route. It now serves as the main commercial roadway through Gaithersburg and neighboring communities. Other state highways serving Gaithersburg include Maryland Route 117, Maryland Route 119 and Maryland Route 124. Maryland Route 28 passes just outside the Gaithersburg corporate limits.
