Why Are There Fleas In My Gaithersburg Home?
While pets are one cause of flea infestation, they aren't the only cause. Fleas can happen even in homes without pets. The most common way fleas come to be on a residential property is other pests such as birds, rodents, and wildlife. These animals get into yards where adult fleas and eggs fall off, waiting to be picked up by another host.
When fleas come off a host, they need a moist and shady area to survive, including tall grasses. Once fleas are in your yard, a pet or child can accidentally pick them up, bringing this parasitic pest into your home, where their lifecycle continues and their population grows.
Another way fleas get inside is directly on birds, rodents, or wildlife when these animals infest.
No matter how fleas get into your Gaithersburg home, you want to get them out as quickly as possible. To do this, ask our Pest Control team how we can help.
What The Experts Have To Say About Flea Infestations In Gaithersburg
There is a lot to say about fleas because although they are a common pest, many people don't know a lot about them. To help you out, here is what the experts think you should know:
What Fleas Look Like:
This pest is small, about 1/16 to 1/8 an inch long, and can look like black specks without magnification. But when you take a closer look, you'll see they have a hard, flat body that is red after a blood meal. They don't have wings but have powerful legs that end in a claw, allowing them to jump onto and grab hosts.
How Fleas Reproduce:
Female fleas need to take a blood meal to lay eggs, but once they do, they can lay up to 50 eggs daily.
Protecting Your Pet:
It would be best if you always worked with a licensed veterinarian to protect your pet from pests like fleas and ticks.
Preventing Them From Inside:
To keep fleas from becoming an issue in your home, you should vacuum regularly and discard the vacuum's contents in the garbage outside of your home. It would help if you also washed pet bedding regularly, checked pets and children for any pests before they come in after being outside, and deter wildlife and other pests by sealing entryways and removing food sources.
If fleas live in high populations in your yard or have made their way inside your house, contact Miche Pest Control for effective flea treatment.
The Dangers Fleas Bring Into Your Gaithersburg Home
Although they are tiny pests, fleas are not innocent, causing many problems when they infest. These problems consist of:
- Spreading Diseases: Fleas can spread diseases when they feed on a host, when flea dirt gets into an open wound, or when swallowed in the case of tapeworms. This pest is known for spreading diseases, including bartonellosis, bubonic plague, cat scratch fever, murine typhus, tularemia, and tungiasis.
- Causing Allergic Reactions: It happens when a person or animal is allergic to a flea's saliva and can lead to painful itching and wounds.
- Leading to Anemia: Usually only occurs in severe cases but can happen nonetheless.
- Causing Stress: It's no secret that dealing with pests is stressful, and fleas are no exception. A flea problem in your home can cause high stress, loss of sleep, lack of appetite, and more.
With the assistance of pest control professionals, you can get rid of fleas in your house quickly and effectively. At Miche Pest Control, we cover fleas under our residential pest control services, which provide quarterly visits to keep your home flea and pest-free year-round. Call today to get started!

Gaithersburg, officially the City of Gaithersburg, is a city in Montgomery County, Maryland. Gaithersburg is the fourth-largest incorporated city in Maryland, behind Baltimore, Frederick, and Rockville. Gaithersburg is located to the northwest of Washington DC, and is considered a suburb and a primary city within the Washington–Arlington–Alexandria, DC–VA–MD–WV Metropolitan Statistical Area. Gaithersburg was incorporated as a town in 1878 and as a city in 1968. Gaithersburg is noted for its ethnic and economic diversity; WalletHub in 2016 ranked it first among the 313 largest U.S. cities for ethnic diversity and second for social class diversity.
Gaithersburg is divided into east and west sections, separated by Interstate 270. The eastern section of the city is older and is the original portion of the town before more recent growth. Landmarks and buildings from that time can still be seen in many places but especially in the historic central business district of Gaithersburg called "Olde Towne". The east side also includes Lakeforest Mall, City Hall, and the Montgomery County Fair grounds, and Bohrer Park (a well-known joint community recreation center and outdoor water park for kids and families). The west side of the city has many wealthier neighborhoods that were designed with smart growth techniques and embrace New Urbanism. These include the award-winning Kentlands community, the Lakelands community, and the Washingtonian Center (better known as Rio), a popular shopping/business district. Two New Urbanism communities are under construction, including Watkins Mill Town Center (Casey East and West), and the massive "Science City".
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is headquartered in Gaithersburg directly west of I-270. Other major employers in the city include IBM, Lockheed Martin Information Systems and Global Services business area headquarters, AstraZeneca, and the French multinational corporation, Sodexo. Gaithersburg is also the location of the garrison of the United States Army Reserve Legal Command.
The most prominent highways serving Gaithersburg are Interstate 270 and Interstate 370. I-270 is the main highway leading northwest out of metropolitan Washington DC, beginning at Interstate 495 (the Capital Beltway) and proceeding northwestward to Interstate 70 in Frederick. I-370 is a short spur, starting just west of I-270 in Gaithersburg and heading east to its junction with Maryland Route 200. Via MD 200, I-370 connects Gaithersburg with Interstate 95 near Laurel. Maryland Route 355 was the precursor to I-270 and follows a parallel route. It now serves as the main commercial roadway through Gaithersburg and neighboring communities. Other state highways serving Gaithersburg include Maryland Route 117, Maryland Route 119 and Maryland Route 124. Maryland Route 28 passes just outside the Gaithersburg corporate limits.

I switched from another pest control company due to high pressure sales/bad billing practices, and switched to Miche. They have been excellent. Excellent customer service, very effective pest treatments, competitive pricing. I highly recommend.
