Four Things Every Falls Church Homeowner Should Know About Fleas

While it’s true that fleas are often associated with pets, they’re also threatening to humans. They’re not uncommon here in Falls Church, and it’s a good idea for local homeowners to be aware of the dangers they pose. Here are four things for property owners to know about fleas:

  1. Fleas are parasitic pests that survive on the blood of their chosen host. They feed on the blood of both mammals and birds.
  2. Fleas are tiny, and there are many of them. There are around 2,000 flea species around the world and about 300 species in the United States alone.
  3. Fleas can go long periods of time without food, surviving over 100 days without feeding.
  4. Fleas live in hair, outdoors, in the grass, in fields or woods; they can also attach to shoes or clothing.

If you want to secure guaranteed flea protection for your home, we highly recommend consulting with a professional pest control company. Here at Miche Pest Control, we bring Falls Church homeowners year-round protection from flea infestation. So, get in touch with us today, and we’ll get the ball rolling.

Here's How You May Be Attracting Fleas To Your Falls Church Yard

Fleas are resilient pests that are extremely difficult to get rid of. They’re drawn to your yard for food sources, which is the blood of mammals and birds. Any conditions which attract mammals and birds will also be conducive to flea activity.

Most famously, fleas are brought onto our properties on house pets like cats and dogs. However, fleas also find their way onto your property via wildlife and rodents. They hide in yard debris, dirt, grass, weeds, and bushes, waiting for wildlife to pass and then latch onto them, traveling all-around your property and beyond.

Once they get inside your property, they hide in damp, dark places that are hard to reach, like bedding, furniture, cushions, and dog beds. They go undetected for long periods in carpets, upholstery, curtains, and small cracks in the floor. Something else to keep in mind is that fleas multiply very quickly and cause a large-scale infestation that is extremely hard to manage.

The best way to deal with a flea infestation is to call in your local pest professionals. Miche Pest Control is here to address all of your flea control and prevention needs. Give us a call today to learn more. We’ll walk you through our flea treatments and get your initial inspection on the calendar right away.

The Dangers Fleas Bring To Falls Church Homes

Fleas may be small, but they can have a big effect on their hosts. Flea bites are uncomfortable, not to mention hugely threatening. Flea bites cause itchiness and infection. If the host is allergic to fleas, they can suffer a severe allergic reaction that can go from a rash to hives to full-on anaphylaxis rather rapidly.

The other thing is that fleas can transmit diseases to their hosts and cause a long list of adverse health effects. They can spread a variety of bacterial diseases and vector illnesses, including murine typhus, bubonic plague, tapeworms, and other ailments.

Fleas can also have serious consequences for your household pests. Their saliva can cause severe allergies in cats and dogs, which is why it’s important to take the proper precautions in minimizing your exposure to fleas. For the best flea protection in the area, look no further than the team at Miche Pest Control. We’re eager to bring you the pest-free conditions you deserve.

How To Prevent Fleas From Infesting Your Home In Falls Church

To effectively keep fleas away from your property, you first must think about keeping other pests away. There are a variety of other pests that host fleas, such as wildlife and rodents. By addressing wildlife and rodent control, you will also prevent flea activity in the process. There are a variety of ways in which you can reduce your chance of having a flea problem.

Here are some helpful ways to reduce your chances of experiencing a flea infestation:

  • Clear away yard debris, and keep lawn and vegetation well-trimmed.
  • Clear clutter, and vacuum carpets, floors, furniture, and crevices where fleas can easily hide.
  • If you do have pets, treat them with a flea bath and/or flea spray.
  • Regularly wash all bedding, linens, laundry, and upholstery on high heat.
  • Use outdoor flea repellent on the exterior of your home to reduce the chances of infestation.
  • Vacuum any eggs, and properly dispose of the vacuum bag in a sealed trash can.

Falls Church VA

Falls Church is an independent city in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Falls Church is included in the Washington metropolitan area. Taking its name from The Falls Church, an 18th-century Church of England (later Episcopal Church) parish, Falls Church gained township status within Fairfax County in 1875. In 1948, it was incorporated as the City of Falls Church, an independent city with county-level governance status although it is not a county. The city's corporate boundaries do not include all of the area historically known as Falls Church; these areas include portions of Seven Corners and other portions of the current Falls Church postal districts of Fairfax County, as well as the area of Arlington County known as East Falls Church, which was part of the town of Falls Church from 1875 to 1936.

At 2.11 square miles, Falls Church is the smallest independent city by area in Virginia. Since independent cities in Virginia are considered county-equivalents, it is also the smallest county-equivalent in the United States by area. The center of the city is the crossroads of Virginia State Route 7 (Broad St./Leesburg Pike) and U.S. Route 29 (Washington St./Lee Highway). The primary roads serving Falls Church directly are U.S. Route 29 and Virginia State Route 7. The portion of US 29 through Falls Church is also coincident with Virginia State Route 237. Most of Virginia State Route 338 is also within Falls Church. Interstate 66 passes just north of the city, while Interstate 495 passes a few miles to the west.
