Why Are There So Many Mosquitoes In My Centreville, VA Yard?

Between the months of March and October, mosquitoes are zipping around Centreville properties searching for the blood that they require in order to reproduce. Because they’re hunting for human blood, the sheer presence of people alone is enough to attract mosquitoes to your yard. Some of the factors that make people attractive to mosquitoes are the:

  • Amount of sweat you produce
  • Color clothes you wear
  • Type of blood you have
  • Times of day when you’re outside
  • Presence of lactic acid in your muscles

Additional factors that make your property attractive to mosquitoes are the presence of dark, cool, and moist places to live and lay their eggs. If you have a bunch of overhanging trees or overgrown hedges, that may be producing a series of conditions that are actually very ideal for mosquitoes. Similarly, having pockets of standing water around your property will also lure mosquitoes. At Miche Pest Control, we help you beat the odds with mosquito control that you can turn to. With seasonal yard fogging and larvicide applications, we provide immediate relief from adult mosquitoes while breaking the life cycle entirely. Three Things You Can Do To Minimize Mosquitoes In Centreville, VA

With mosquitoes posing a threat in Centreville between the months of March and October, it’s imperative that residents do their best to prevent them from becoming an issue on their property. Try these three tips in order to keep mosquito populations low on your property:

Address the people problem. Human blood is the thing that female mosquitoes require in order to reproduce, so they are always looking for an unsuspecting host. In order to make yourself less attractive to mosquitoes, try using unscented soap, shampoo, and personal hygiene products; wear light-colored clothing; limit the amount of time you spend outside during dusk and dawn; and consume less alcohol.

Work on landscaping. Mosquitoes are also drawn to properties that have a significant amount of shade and moist locations. That’s why it’s important to trim back trees to let in sunlight, remove piles of yard debris, and turn over standing water routinely.

Dangers Mosquitoes Pose In Centreville, VA

Mosquitoes are known as the deadliest animal across the globe because of the dangerous pathogens that they spread. Each year, approximately one million people die as a result of being bitten by a mosquito. The health risks that they commonly pose are Zika virus, dengue fever, Eastern equine encephalitis (EEE), malaria, and West Nile virus. And the humans in Centreville aren’t the only ones who can be afflicted with these illnesses; some of these diseases are able to be passed along to your dogs and horses. Take EEE for example, this feels like the flu, with a headache and sudden fever, but it’s actually a swelling of the brain with additional side effects being drowsiness, confusion, and vomiting. In the case of West Nile virus (WNV), according to the Centers For Disease Control and Prevention, one in five people infected with WNV will develop symptoms, with one in 150 people having serious side effects. Since there are no vaccines against this virus, preventive measures are key. Some of the side effects that come with West Nile Virus are fever, joint pain, muscle swelling, and nausea.

Do I Need Professional Mosquito Control In Centreville, VA?

Professional mosquito control is one of the best investments that Centreville homeowners can make for themselves. Because mosquitoes are on the search for the human blood they require in order to reproduce and a shady, moist place to take up shelter, your property provides them with everything they need. This makes DIY mosquito control very restrictive and simply not feasible. Without the help of a professional, Centreville homeowners would be left to limit the amount of time they spend outside, change their detergent and personal hygiene products, curb the amount of alcohol they drink, and even dress in different colored clothing. Some things that people can’t change is the type of blood they have, which is a big factor in whether or not mosquitoes are attracted to you. DIY methods also involve having an intimate understanding of your property and know-how to landscape in ways that will deter mosquitoes. It also involves tending to your standing water on a regular basis, and even that is not a foolproof method.

When you work with Miche Pest Control for mosquito control, you will never have to worry about these pests again. With yard fogging and larvicide application, we take a complete approach to keeping your property free from mosquitoes. And should any arise between regularly scheduled seasonal visits, we’ll re-treat your property gratis. Centreville VA

Centreville is a census-designated place (CDP) in Fairfax County, Virginia, and a suburb of Washington DC. Centreville is approximately 20 miles west of Washington DC. The town of Centerville (shortly thereafter spelled Centreville) was established in 1792 on the turnpike road at the village of Newgate by the Virginia General Assembly in response to petitions by local landowners. The petitioners reasoned that a town on the turnpike road leading from the Northwest Territory and centrally located to Alexandria, Colchester, Dumfries, Middleburg, George Town (later Georgetown), Fauquier Court House (later Warrenton), and Leesburg would be convenient. The town acquired its name due to its central location. James Hardage Lane, one of the landowners, conceived the idea of the town as a way to provide financial support to his widow and their children. At the town's inception, it was within the boundary of Loudoun County, Virginia, and became part of Fairfax County, Virginia, in 1798 when the boundary between the two counties shifted. Town development established a pattern of mixed residential and commercial use. Frame houses, several taverns, stores, blacksmith shops, tanyards, and a school house were constructed on the 1/2-acre town lots.

Centreville is served by three major roads. US Route 29, the main artery through the town, enters Centreville from the west. Virginia Route 28 enters from the south and interchanges with US Route 29 in between Centreville's two main shopping centers. SR 620 (Braddock Road) has several stretches of pavement in Centreville. Interstate 66 comes from the south-west and interchanges with both routes before heading toward Washington DC in the east or western Virginia. The three roads are part of an interesting, if not frustrating traffic pattern. Drivers heading north on SR 28 are able to exit onto Interstate 66 eastbound, but they must use a one-mile stretch of US 29 to access the westbound side of the Interstate. Likewise, eastbound Interstate 66's Exit 53 only provides access to SR 28 northbound; one must use Exit 52 and the same stretch of US 29 to reach SR 28 south.
