When Are Mosquitoes In Annandale Most Active?
Peak mosquito season takes place in Annandale between the months of March and October, with the peak of their activity falling over the summer months. During this time, mosquitoes are drawn out because of the moist and humid local environment. This weather creates a very specific set of conditions that is highly conducive to a mosquito's breeding cycle. While the female mosquito is busy zipping around outdoor gatherings and loitering in your Annandale backyard, she’s got one mission: finding human blood. This is what allows her to reproduce and lay her eggs on your property, and the conditions that are present during the height of mosquito season allow her to do this. The female mosquito seeks moist areas or nooks that are home to standing water, like birdbaths and kiddie pools. Mosquitoes will also seek refuge in cool and slick places like piles of lawn trimmings, leaves, and tree branches.
In order to keep mosquitoes away from your property and enjoy it all season long, professional mosquito control is the way to go. At Miche Pest Control, our mosquito control offerings are comprehensive and applied on a routine basis during the months between March and October. Utilizing methods like fogging and larvicide, we’re able to provide quick relief from adult mosquito populations while preventing new mosquitoes from hatching. Why Mosquitoes Are Attracted To Your Annandale Yard
Seeing mosquitoes buzzing around your Annandale yard can be disruptive and a nuisance. When they’re on the prowl, mosquitoes are primarily searching for the human blood that they require in order to reproduce. This means that having an abundance of people at say, a summertime barbecue, can be a hot zone for mosquito activity. Additionally, mosquitoes seek very specific conditions for both taking up shelter and laying their eggs, both of which your property may provide. In order to reproduce, mosquitoes look for areas of standing water. These are commonly found in birdbaths, your pet’s water bowls, kiddie pools, pool and grill covers, flower pots, and anywhere else that water may pool together. And for their residence, mosquitoes prefer dark, cool, and moist areas. This may be leaf piles that you’ve been meaning to tend to, or simply a shady backyard with plentiful foliage.
When mosquitoes prove to be plentiful on your property, you need the assistance of Miche Pest Control. Our mosquito control program is designed to address both current populations and future issues. Through methods like yard fogging and larvicide, we break the entire mosquito life cycle. To learn more about how your home can benefit from seasonal mosquito control, contact us today.
Do DIY Mosquito Control Methods In Annandale Actually Work?
The mosquitoes that you’ll encounter in Annandale are primarily searching for human blood in order to reproduce. This makes nearly every character trait about being human potentially attractive to mosquitoes. Some of the things that attract mosquitoes the most are:
- Your blood type
- The presence of alcohol
- Dark-colored clothing
- Whether or not you sweat
- Scented hygiene products like soap, shampoo, and laundry detergent
- The time of day, with dawn and dusk being the biggest offenders
In order to prevent mosquitoes, residents would need to make a lot of changes to their daily lives, which ultimately proves restrictive and unreasonable. In many cases, the reasons why mosquitoes are attracted to you are simply unavoidable altogether. Genetics are responsible for roughly 85% of the variability in whether or not mosquitoes are attracted to you. And even if individuals were to try to limit the factors that make them attractive to mosquitoes, they still wouldn’t be addressing the root cause of why there’s a mosquito problem in the first place.
At Miche Pest Control, we know how difficult it is to prevent mosquitoes on your property, which is why we’ve developed a comprehensive mosquito control program for seasonal use. Between the months of March and April, we’ll use both yard fogging and larvicide in order to provide a well-rounded and effective approach to total mosquito control. Annandale is a census-designated place (CDP) in Fairfax County, Virginia. It is home to the oldest and largest branch of the Northern Virginia Community College system, and to one of the DC area's Koreatowns. Annandale derives its name from Annandale in Scotland.
Annandale is mostly traversed by the Capital Beltway and Virginia State Route 236. The center of town is considered to be where Route 236, Columbia Pike, and Backlick Road meet around two miles east of Interstate 495 on Route 236.
Annandale is bordered to the north by West Falls Church, to the east by Lake Barcroft and Lincolnia, to the south by North Springfield, and to the west by Wakefield and Woodburn. The CDP border follows Braddock Road to the south, Interstate 495 to the west, Holmes Run and U.S. Route 50 to the north, and Sleepy Hollow Road, Columbia Pike, and Little River Turnpike to the east.
The area is part of the coastal plain located just east of the Fall Line separating the coastal plain of Virginia from the Piedmont. It is characterized by rolling hills, stream valleys, and heavy red clay soils. The Annandale region is bisected by Accotink Creek, which in Colonial times was a primary link for ocean-going ships that would load tobacco and other goods where Little River Turnpike - Annandale's oldest road and the first toll road in America - crosses it. With the construction of the Springfield Dam in 1918, Lake Accotink was created to serve as a water source for World War I Army Camp A.A. Humphreys. In 1960, when the lake was no longer needed by the Army, the Fairfax County Park Authority leased the land and finally bought the site in 1965. Today, Lake Accotink is a popular recreation area with bike trails, fishing and boat rentals.
Also along Accotink Creek runs the Fairfax Cross County Trail which provides uninterrupted hiking, biking, running and cross-country skiing for 20 miles in Annandale. The CCT meanders through parks and forests filled with deer, fox, geese and numerous species of native birds. In the spring, Accotink Creek is stocked with trout, and fishermen are often seen wading in its waters.
